Beyond the “Trans Fact”? Trans Representation in the Teen Series Euphoria: Complexity, Recognition, and Comfort

Recent anti?LGBTQ+ discourse has increased the threat of violence against people who do not follow cisheteronormative mandates. To face these dialectics, media can offer alternative discourses, in particular by providing realistic and non?stereotyped LGBTQ+ representations. Media portrayals be seen as both positive negative. On one hand, they may stereotypical narrow representations, but on other, include representations that become aspirational models improve visibility. The objective this article is to explore second perspective analyzing representation Jules, a trans female character from American series <em>Euphoria</em> (Levinson et al., 2019–present). end, we conducted close reading analysis (Castelló, 2008) first season series. results show three axes move away traditional portrayal characters: (a) narrative moves beyond “trans fact” presents complex plural stories, (b) individual an element value love, fetishism, (c) link between realm specific spaces comfort freedom.
